Tottenham will want to keep the momentum going after a positive first season under Ange Postecoglou’s rule, and that means more investment in the summer transfer market.
In the past, Tottenham have been criticized for not backing their managers enough on the transfer market, and that was a big sticking point in Antonio Conte’s public lashing out at the club before his eventual departure.
With Postecoglou, Tottenham have shown a willingness to acquire top talent such as Micky van de Ven, James Maddison, Radu Dragusin, Guglielmo Vicario, and even Timo Werner on loan.
According to a report from Tom Allnutt of The Sunday Times, Tottenham are prepared to make three signings at the three biggest needs Ange Postecoglou has identified: center back, center midfielder, and striker.
In order to do that, Tottenham are willing to sell seven of their players, with star forward Richarlison and top center midfielder Yves Bissouma on that list.
Cynically, Tottenham fans will point out that isn’t quite backing a manager to sell seven and obtain three, especially when two of those sales would be starting-caliber players at those exact positions of need.
Richarlison is averaging nearly a full goal contribution per 90 and would have at least 20 goals if he were a regular starter in every game this season.
The Brazilian has bounced back nicely under Postecoglou. As for Bissouma, while he isn’t a perfectly world-class No. 8, he is Spurs’ best center midfielder. Selling him would hurt the depth at a position Tottenham are desperately trying to beef up.
Postecoglou has done his part to help Tottenham right the ship in his first season, getting them back to European football after last season’s eighth-placed finish. Now, Daniel Levy needs to do his job and help out this summer.
