Bayern Munich are still on the hunt for a new manager to replace Thomas Tuchel at the end of the 2023/24 Bundesliga season, even though the German coach has Die Roten on the cusp of a potential Champions League Final return.
So much has happened between Tuchel and the club that it looks like the former Borussia Dortmund manager will be the latest great coach from the country to be pushed out the door, just like Julian Nagelsmann and Hansi Flick inexplicably were.
Interestingly enough, Flick looks like one of the chief candidates to replace Tuchel as Bayern Munich coach for the 2024/25 Bundesliga season, as he is one of the three reported top possibilities for Max Eberl and Co.
According to a report from BILD, the others are Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag and Brighton coach Roberto De Zerbi. Ten Hag, De Zerbi, and Flick are the three most frequently discussed names in rumors regarding the Bayern Munich vacancy.
A reunion with Flick seems more complicated than the other options, though if Man United’s new INEOS ownership takes as kindly to ten Hag’s situation as Bayern Munich seemingly does, then the free agent Flick would technically be easier to hire.
Of course, a managerial swap between Bayern Munich and Manchester United has been proposed, with football fans around the world likely taking a kinder view to Man United’s end of the bargain. After all, Tuchel once won the Champions League, just like Flick at Bayern.
De Zerb is still an “it” name in world football after leading Brighton to the Europa League last season, even though the results have run dry this season for the Seagulls due to a myriad of injuries.
These are three very different candidates for Bayern Munich, but they are clearly the best options left – much better than the likes of Ernesto Valverde, who has recently been tossed around as a possible candidate.
