Chelsea have a new superstar in town, as Cole Palmer has earned himself a seat at the same table as Mohamed Salah, Bukayo Saka, and Erling Haaland as one of the very best players in the Premier League today.
Palmer has been THE breakout star of the 2023/24 season – and not just in England. The best Chelsea player since Eden Hazard left for the Santiago Bernabeu, Palmer is sitting on 21 goals and 9 assists despite only actually starting 26 Premier League matches this season.
The biggest bright spot in another disappointing Chelsea season, Cole Palmer is the reason why the Blues are now in a position to at least qualify for some sort of European competition in the 2024/25 season.
Unsurprisingly, Palmer’s teammates named him the Chelsea Player of the Season. But when asked for his choice on the award, Palmer had someone else in mind:
“My vote for player’s player was Malo Gusto. I love playing with him on the right. He’s been amazing this season when he’s played as well.”
Chelsea fans can fully get behind that. While Palmer is obviously everyone’s runaway Player of the Season for Chelsea and could very well win the Premier League Player of the Season, too, Malo Gusto would likely be the second choice.
Gusto is so good that he may have already overtaken Reece James as the best option at right back, because he is so adept at making those attacking runs and supporting an attack more comprehensively.
The ex-Lyon standout has been as-advertised for Chelsea and, like Palmer, one of the few players who have lived up to expectations since arriving at Stamford Bridge.
A complete right back, Guso is a great forward’s best friend with his intensity both at winning possession and at carrying possession into the final third.
Cole Palmer certainly knows what’s up.
